Manhattan Beach

Saturday, April 6th, 2013

This past week was my baby brother’s 15th birthday, I still call him my baby brother. Ever since I moved 80 miles away I don’t get to see him very often but of course I had to make the drive to celebrate another year. After we had dinner we decided we wanted to go to the beach to watch the sunset, so off we went to Manhattan Beach. The only thing I miss living out in the desert is being 5-10 minutes away from the beach.

Being able to share a sunset with my little brother and family was nice. It’s these little moments that we make memories of that bring me the most joy. Happy birthday Sebastian! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Sunrise

Friday, March 29th, 2013

One of the things I love about Spring is the way the light begins to shift in the morning. The sun begins to rise from behind the mountains casting the most glorious rays of light across this little road I travel to take my daughter to school. There is a lonely tree in the middle of a field and, when Spring arrives, it takes my breath away every morning. This is one of my favorite pictures I took last week, it captures exactly what I described.

Wishing you a great weekend and a Happy Easter!

Spring is here

Saturday, March 23rd, 2013

I have never been so happy for Spring to arrive. I always talk about how spoiled we are in southern California but this year we actually had a winter, we even got snow!  The winter months seemed to drag on for ever and let me tell you about the mood… not pretty.  The last two years have been filled with challenges and health issues and this year started off the same. Surgeries, downtime and way too much time to spend online doing absolutely nothing.

The weather has finally started to warm up, flip flops have made their way back into our lives and all is right with the world again.  I was out driving around the other day and noticed the trees and fields blooming, such a beautiful sight.  I love the longer days and the energy that comes along with it.  Evening walks with the kids surrounded by new life is just what I need to get this year back on track.  Remember to take the time to stop and look at all the beauty taking place around you.

Boston 2012

Friday, November 16th, 2012

My favorite time every year is when I have to travel to Boston. This year, thanks to Hurricane Sandy, it almost didn’t happen. This trip was chaotic and incredibly stressful. I didn’t get a chance to do a photo tour this time but I got to take a few shots from the plane and a couple of shots walking around the town. It was halloween night and the moon was as spooky as ever.

The sky and the sunset felt the need to make up for the lack of photo ops I had in Boston and showed off like never before. The colors in between the clouds were amazing, and like always, took my breath away. Happy Friday!

Socks for Sandy

Friday, November 9th, 2012

The last few months have been hectic and I’m happy to finally have some time to write a new post. However, the circumstances that bring me to this post are heartbreaking.

As you all know, the East Coast was hit by hurricane Sandy last week and the devastation it caused is beyond comprehension. What is also beyond comprehension is the lack of response by those in charge and the sense that these great people have been left to fend for themselves. A lot of places are still without power, without heat and without anything except the clothes on their backs after losing everything!

Because when catastrophe strikes I always feel the need to find a way to help, I wanted to find a way to help locally. Don’t get me wrong, I think donating to the Red Cross or The Salvation Army (my favorite) is great, but sometimes it seems as though things fall through the cracks and the ones that need to most help go unnoticed. So I came across Laura who is based out of New Jersey. She has a great blog about crafts and artsy goodies but over the last week she has transformed it as an outreach program to get some basic necessities to NJ.

This is how Socks for Sandy was born. With the cold already arriving and the overwhelming donations of clothes, the tiny basic things are missing like NEW underwear and socks. She has put together a drive to collect these items. It’s not a lot she’s asking for, just undies and socks. You can do that, right? You can click on the picture below to read her personal experience with Sandy and to get more information on how to help. Donations of socks and underwear can be sent to:

Socks for Sandy
P.O. Box 520
Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087

Because the need is urgent, a deadline of November 14th has been set to receive donations, but anything coming in after that will still be accepted. Please look inside your heart and help a worthy cause. Thank you!
