Beach Bumming It

Thursday, August 16th, 2012

My daughter had to go back to school this week and we were able to squeeze in one last trip to the beach. The weather was on its best behavior and gave us an absolutely awesome day, no overcast and no extreme heat, couldn’t ask for more. I could’ve asked for no sunburn, but that’ll teach me to forget the sunscreen for me.

The water was cool and refreshing and we spent most of the time in it. Hopefully this won’t be our last beach outing but until next time, here are some pictures from Manhattan Beach, CA.

SeaWorld 2012

Monday, August 13th, 2012

I was on a mission this summer, to do at least one trip to a theme park with the girls. School starts up again this week and I was running out of time so SeaWorld it was. I hadn’t been there in over a decade, and it’s as beautiful as I remember. I did notice one difference, the trainers no longer get in the water with the whales. My daughters were in awe of these grand creatures and enjoyed every second of it. I was hoping that going on a weekday would allow us to miss the crowds but I was so wrong. It was packed!

We had amazing weather and got to cross something off the summer list. School, here we come!

San Francisco, BFF’s & iPhones

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

Summers are usually a busy work time for me, so being able to combine a work trip with some great friends and play time was more than I could ask for.

I’ve known these ladies since the early 90′s. We worked together for over 5 years in our younger days and had not spent some quality time without little ones fighting for our attention in a long time. It was a blast, I had the time of my life. I laughed so hard it felt like I worked out my abs to the Ab Ripper X! I feel blessed to be able to call these amazing women my friends. BFF’s make the world go round and make for great pictures too.

Seems like more and more my iPhone is my go to camera when I can’t have my Canon attached to my hip. Behold, the trip that tightened up my abs. :)

The Story of Them

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

Today is my parent’s 38th wedding anniversary. I know their story like the back of my hand, I’ve heard my mom tell it countless times while my dad brushes it aside not wanting to dwell on the past. He is all about the present and future.

They started dating when they were 18 years old, they met through their church group. My dad was the youth group leader and my mom was part of the choir, it made sense. My dad joined the choir just so he could be near her… sneaky fella.

They dated for 5 years, most of them were long distance while my dad was here in the US. In a time of no facebook, cell phones and even land line phones in Chile, their love affair was a challenge to keep on track. That was a time when you actually worked hard at your relationship and longed for the day when a letter arrived in the mail. He wooed her with Psalms (I know, I know… corny) and she honored her promise to wait for his return.

On June 22, 1974 they vowed to forsake all others until death do them part. What a journey it has been. I have seen their ups and downs and the hiccups along the way. As they vacation in celebration of this amazing accomplishment in today’s world, I wish them nothing but the best and a lifetime of happiness. Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad!

Father’s Day 2012

Sunday, June 17th, 2012

I’ve heard this story for the last 36 years, my dad took me on my very first road trip when I was just a few months old… just the two of us. This began a beautiful relationship between my father and I, and I am sure that this is when my love of road trips began.

He played hopscotch with me. He teased me about boys.
He pulled me from a lake and saved me from drowning.
He embarrassed me in front of my friends when I thought I was too cool to be reprimanded.
He bought me flowers the day I became a lady.
He understands me.
He hugged me close and let me cry on his shoulder when my heart was broken… more than once, and told me it was going to be ok.

He walked me down the isle when it finally was ok.

There is no bond like that of a father and daughter. I love my father with everything that I am, every fiber of my being. I hope that every woman out there is as blessed as I have been to have such a wonderful man take on the challenge of being the greatest dad.

Happy father’s day to all of you who were men enough to step up and experience the greatest love story there can be.
