Final 2016 Road Trip

I think we can all agree that 2016 was one mean year. 2016 was horrible to me with a nice little twist at the end. After battling colon cancer most of the year, I was ready to put an end to this chapter with one epic road trip.  And I did exactly that.

I’ve been wanting to see Monument Valley in Utah for a while now and this was the perfect opportunity to get away. I wanted to end the year by seeing beautiful places out of cell and internet range. I wanted to take it all in.  I packed up my car in what ended up being the coldest week of the year since winter began and hit the road without any concrete plans.  I drove all day from California to Utah and parked overnight at the visitor center like a good little nomad. First time I ever slept in my car on a road trip. I wanted to be there for the sunrise, even if it was 25 degrees that night. Thankfully I didn’t freeze to death and waking up to the amazing view was worth it.

After spending most of the day at Monument Valley I really wanted to catch the sunset at Horseshoe Bend in Page, AZ.  I was there earlier this year but it was so hot that I cut that experience short. Being only two hours away, it was the perfect time to revisit. I got there just in time to find a spot on the edge and watch the sun go down. What a wonderful experience. Majestic!  I sat there and watched until the sun was completely gone. Then I sat there and watched everyone else sharing in this experience.

Once the sun went down I decided to drive down to Sedona, AZ. I found a campsite just south of town and camped for the night. In the morning I headed into Sedona looking for the Chapel of the Holy Cross. I found this place on Instagram and have been wanting to see it every since. Breathtaking doesn’t begin to describe it. I decided to finish my time in Sedona with a hike at Red Rock State Park and eventually began making my way home.  This trip exceeded my expectations. It was the culmination of so many things I’ve learned about myself this year. I am strong, I am a fighter and I am not done packing up my car and driving towards pretty places.  My hope is that 2017 will be kinder and full of new adventures. Happy New Year!

California 395 Roadtrip

The last 3 months were killing me. For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been going through chemo since July and have been confined to my room and my four walls. If my road trip pictures are any indication of what I like to do, you have to understand how difficult having to be home was for me. And not just the being home, but the state I was in. I felt like I was dying. No longer living. Trying to survive.

I poured over pictures of past trips and lived vicariously through all the travels of people that I’ve come to know over the last few years hoping and praying that road trips would be part of my life again. The second my doctor said I was done with chemo the dreams of being able to get on the road again became more attainable. And the first chance I got to get away, I did.

The BFF called and said she had a permit to go hike the Subway in Zion, Utah so we decided to pack up the car and head out of town. Unfortunately, Utah fell through so we quickly scrambled for plan B and headed north on the 15 to the 395. What amazing treasures can be found off the 395. There is so much beauty to be seen if you get in your car, grab a map, and just drive. We stopped at Fossil Falls, Alabama Hills, dined in Lone Pine, camped at Tuttle Creek campground and then headed towards Big Pine Lakes for a mountain hike. This is the most exercise I’ve had in 6 months so to say that climbing that mountain was challenging is an understatement. We hiked for 4 hours and finally made it to the First Lake. What an amazing treat on the eyes after pushing through miles and miles. I am hooked. I want to do it again. I want to see more beautiful places. I want to live!

Here are a few pictures from every stop along the way. Enjoy!

Selena’s Yummy Birthday Party!

I had the opportunity to work with Lily from The Beautiful Circus and shoot her daughter’s birthday party a few months ago. This was absolutely the most beautifully decorated birthday party I’ve ever shot. Just breathtaking, every last detail. A good time was had by all. Happy to finally share some of these photos with you. Now I want cake!

Chasing Sunsets

Everyone who knows me knows that I’m a sucker for sunsets. All of them. Whenever I can chase one, I will. I took my first little road trip down to San Diego this weekend after months of battling health issues. It was so good to get away.

I found my way to Sunset Cliffs in San Diego and waited for the sunset. I noticed a lot of couples showing up to do the same. I even witnessed one gentleman get down on one knee and propose. I missed him down on his knee but I caught their embrace when she said yes. It’s not stalking, it’s people watching!

I decided to try to find them to get the picture to them and, thanks to the power of social media, I found them! Happy Ending.❤️

Maggie & Daniel’s Wedding

As many of you know, I’ve been taking a little break for the last 5 months. Right before going on my little hiatus I had the opportunity to capture Maggie & Daniel’s wedding. It was such a beautiful day. From every last little detail to every moment they shared, nothing but love. It was truly a fun celebration of love. Once again, congratulations! ❤️
